Lightning Headphone

iPhone 7 is on its way to launch in a few days. There is news all over the web that, Apple is ditching 3.5 mm audio jack from their next iPhone (iPhone 7 presumably). Instead, they are introducing lightning port for headphones. Surprised? maybe you even curse apple for this. Apple has a history of killing old tech for the sake of new once (CD, Floppy drive, USB-A etc). Well, it seems that company has two options, 1st is to provide an adapter for 3.5 mm jack headphones, and 2nd is to make lightning headphones and earbuds for their products. Lightning headphones are same as regular headphones but with the lightning port connector. There are also a lot of companies who’s gonna launch lightning headphones and earbuds soon.

What is the need?

This question may arise in your mind that, why is apple ditching 3.5 mm jack?. This is because it can save lots of  space on the phone. Apple always tries to make it’s flagship device thinner. Apple can save lots of space by removing this old 3.5 mm jack. This is gonna help in making iPhone thinner and also they can secure more space for bigger battery. There’s also another benefit from lightning headphones. Apple’s lightning port is bidirectional that means it can draw power from host or it can be used to power the accessories of host device, that means you can charge while listening to music, Wonderful!!. The old 3.5 mm audio jack is analog. It can only deliver sound quality of CD. On the other hand, the lightning headphones come with integrated DAC (digital to analog converter), so audio reaches at headphone digitally avoiding analog signal interference. Therefore new lightning headphones are capable of receiving/sending lossless digital audio input/output from/to Apple device.

Availability

Apple has made a MFi program (Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod). It enables manufacturers to make accessories for an Apple device. Lots of companies have taken advantage of this program. But unfortunately in this case very few manufacturers able to take advantage till now. Maybe we can see more lightning headphones popping up after the launch of next iPhone. The best example of lightning headphone right now is Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back headphone. There is also rumors that apple maybe launching Bluetooth headphones instead of lightning.

But we can’t say anything for sure now. We’re also gonna write a post on best lightning headphones that has launched and launching soon. Let me know what you think of Apple’s decision in comment section right below. Stay tuned for future updates in the tech world.
